WAY TO GO TEAM CAMARILLO YOGA!
American Cancer Society Relay for Life, 2007

October 13/14, 2007 Adolfo Camarillo High School
Wow! What an effort by our whole yoga community!   Thanks to everyone for contributing to our second annual 24 hour marathon Relay for Life walk at Adolfo Camarillo Highschool. Besides raising over $3,400 for programs and research to help those living with cancer, we were able to support survivors who live with this challenge daily, and those who have had family members taken by cancer.  Thanks to all over our walkers, donators, yoga practitioners who helped staff our stretching area and booth around the clock.  A special thanks to Barbara and Randee,  our persuasive raffle ticket sellers extraordinaire, who worked the track like professionals, to Peg Moore, our booth “merchandising coordinator,” to Art Galindo who kindly supplied us with fantastic Banzai trees to sell, to Soheil and Bob, who managed to talk and work at the same time, setting up and tearing down all our stuff with great ease and humor, and to my son, Noah, who at 12 is committed to volunteering and helping others… what a great kid!     Yoga means “Union” and you all worked together in unity to make this an amazing event!    Let’s do it again next year!
Namaste! audrey

50? 90? Yoga is for EveryBody, at Every Age!

Thanks to all of our amazing Camarillo Yogis and families, who turned out en masse at the lovely home of CJ and Robert LeBaron, to help me usher in the second half of my life!     You made my birthday so very special, and proved once again that yogis really know how to party!     Your support for the creation of a Camarillo Yoga home practice DVD will be an incredible gift to all of us, and hopefully by my next birthday we’ll all have one!

A special thanks to Ami & Mike LeBaron-Marchlik, Kristy Putnam, Allison and Andy Barton, Roni, and my awesome son, Noah, for all their hard work making the idea of a party a reality.   And of course, my extra special thanks to our Yoga Statesman, George Benson, who at 90 has a yoga practice which inspires me every single day.

Love to all, and namaste,
Audrey

October 7/8, 2006 American Cancer Society Relay for Life

October 7/8, 2006 Adolfo Camarillo High School
Our first Relay was a phenomenal success-  the spirit of community was awesome, even at 3 o’clock in the moring when the chicken dance, yoga with the Cam. High football team, and skipping around the track kept us warm and laughing.  Thanks to Noah, our amazing raffle ticket seller and co-captain, and to everyone who made our first Relay a new Camarillo Yoga tradition.

About the RAIN Project

Together, our students and teachers are creating "Community Yoga" (Karma Yoga).  Through benefits and donations of clothing and usable items, we support the RAIN project, a transitional living and education center for homeless families.

You probably don't know Wendy. After years of suffering, she found the courage to take her two small children and run from her abusive husband. Wendy was working two jobs and living in a motorhome with no running water in a mall parking lot. At RAIN, Wendy and her children found safety and support. They received counseling, health services and support to successfully transition to independent housing, where she remains today.
Wendy's story is not unique. The majority of homeless persons in Ventura County are women and children. Since 1997, The RAIN Project, a transitional living center for homeless individuals and families of Ventura County, has provided temporary housing and support services to over 1100 homeless individuals, helping them to achieve self-sufficiency.
The RAIN Project has just moved to a new home on Lewis Road, after years of less than adequate quarters at the Camarillo airport. At Camarillo Yoga, we are proud to have helped furnish one of the rooms through our RAIN & SHINE Health fair, held last May. But the work is far from over!
RAIN Project is funded by a combination of public and private sources. RAIN Communities Inc., (RCI) is a private non-profit organization staffed by volunteers, working to raise funds to finish paying for the new facility, and to support their ongoing services.
Your participation in our fund raisers for RAIN helps make RAIN's bright future a reality, and your tax-deductible donation will be put to immediate use at the facility. Find out more about RAIN and RCI and how you can help. Volunteers and donations of usable items for children are always welcome and much needed . For more information about RCI, call 388-4334. To contact RAIN directly, call 389-3308.
I feel so lucky to see the practice of Karma Yoga (service to others) flowering at Camarillo Yoga. We are so fortunate to share our yoga practice, friends, family and talents with one another. This sense of community is a dream come true for me, and my family.

Namaste,

     Audrey
